How Dibs works, and how to reach us when something isn't right.

What Dibs is

Dibs splits a restaurant bill without one person doing all the math. The organizer snaps the receipt in the iPhone app and shares a link. Everyone opens it, calls dibs on what they had, and pays the organizer back.

Joining a dinner

  • Open the link the organizer sent you, or scan the QR code on their phone. Anyone already in the dinner can show the code too, with Invite others.
  • It opens in any browser. You don't need the app or an account.
  • Enter your name, then tap what you had. Shared something? Split it 2, 3, or more ways.

Paying the organizer

Dibs adds up your items and your share of tax and tip. Pay with Venmo opens Venmo with the amount and a note filled in. Dibs doesn't move money itself. After you pay, tap I paid so the organizer can see it. The organizer can confirm a payment or unmark it.

Removing a guest

Organizers: open the dinner in the app, tap the guest's name, then Remove. Their items go back to unclaimed. If they reported a payment, unmark it first. Guests can be removed while the dinner is open.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Profile, then Delete account. Here's what happens:

  • Dinners you organized are deleted for everyone, along with their receipt photos.
  • In other people's dinners, your name becomes "Former guest". Amounts stay the same, so their totals stay right.
  • Your name, Venmo username, and sign-in are deleted.
  • This can't be undone.

Guests don't have an account. To be removed from a dinner, ask the organizer, or contact us with the dinner link. The privacy policy covers what Dibs stores.
